My good friend and colleague, David Gammel, found a great learning technology that has great implications for professional development. I wrote a blog posting about ePortfolios (check out March 1, 2005 posting) where I talk about the use of virtual spaces to collect one's collective professional knowledge. David found a great technology that allows you to do just what we discussed.
The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School has created a new technology called H2O Playlist. The technology is in beta form, but there is a wide range of great information already on the site. You'll just have to experience it to see what it's all about. Here are just a few cool features:
- Create a list of URLs, journal articles, books, audio clips, etc. around any topic you wish
- Arrange those resources in categories that you name
- Link your playlist to other related playlists
- Use someone else's playlist as the beginning of your own
I've started a playlist with eLearning resources that I have recently collected.
Here is my list: Amy's H2O Playlist. The resources here are ones I'm currently reviewing for an article I'm writing for the Association FORUM on learning styles and eLearning design.
The beauty of this technology is that
- It is personalized to you...the way you would organize information
- You share your "resources" with other people allowing collaboration and peer-to-peer learning
- Use of tags for postings allows for the entire Playlist site to be searched
Go play and let me know what you think!
