Text Messaging at Conferences

I'm at Learning 2005!

Here is the first of many blog postings this week from Orlando!

Elliott Masie kicked off his conference tonight with a host of cool technologies and conference technology enhancements (see previous post about Conference Design & Education Technology). 

Masie has launched SMS Text Messaging at the conference.  Participants simply send a simple text message to a number (given to participants via email).  A response message is sent back to verify the user.

Basically, a daily text message will be sent out by Masie....more to come on this great idea!

Will Podcasts Replace Virtual Seminars?

During the Distance Learning Coalition meeting today, David Gammel (High Context Consulting, LLC) and Jeff De Cagna (Principled Innovation, LLC) talked about podcasting and how associations can use them. 

As I was sitting in the session a compelling thought crossed my mind... 

As associations continue to learn more about podcasts and start to use them more frequently, I believe that the use of virtual seminars may be significantly impacted.  For those associations who currently offer virtual seminars in a more traditional classroom style, the association may want to think about moving some of their classroom-style virtual seminars to a podcast format.
