What are Tag Clouds you ask? Click on the Tag Cloud link to find out...
This free and fascinating technology that takes RSS feeds, looks at the words in the various sites you "tag" and generates a word listing. Click here to view the Association eLearning tag cloud here.
The concept is pretty powerful for learning. Elliott Masie spoke earlier today at the ASTD TechKnowledge conference about the power of Tag Clouds for learning. It got me thinking about the possibilities for associations and professional development.
Here's how to create a Tag Cloud
- I signed up for a free account at www.tagcloud.com
- Click on MyClouds then Create a New Cloud
- Name your new cloud
- Open a new browser window and surf to your favorite blog or web site with an RSS feed. (Often you see the Feedburner icon or RSS icon on a blog).
- Click on that RSS or Feedburner icon on your favorite blog or web site and copy the feed URL
- Paste that URL in the TagCloud field called "Feed URL".
- You can keep adding Feed URL's to your new cloud.
- When you are done, click on the "View" tab and take a look at your new Tag Cloud (it may take a few minutes to load)
I created a new cloud called CoolAssnInfo which aggregates blogs dealing with the association world.
Once you've created your Cloud, you can add a link to your cloud from your web site or you can imbed the TagCloud in you site or blog directly.
Pretty cool!
